-China Railway’s Rock Crusher Kills Liberian Worker
Investigation into report of lack of safety measures has established how one Daniel B. Toe, a Liberian casual worker met his untimely death at the rock crushing plant owned and operated by China Railway Construction Company in the Southeast.
The incident, according to our investigation took place between the hours of 9-10 am on October 23, 2017 in Gebio, Pleebo Sodoken District, Maryland County. Findings into the death of Mr. Toe revealed that it was due to negligence on the part of his immediate boss who, the investigation revealed instructed the victim to tighten a bolt under the rock crushing machine which abruptly stopped working.
While implementing the instruction, the sources hinted that the machine abruptly came on by itself resulting into the suffocation of victim Daniel B. Toe whose lifeless body was seen on the conveyer belt of the machine.
One account informed the Public Agenda that Toe’s Death was due to negligence on the part of the technician assigned to the rock crusher machine. According to him (name withheld), while the deceased was tightening the bolt, the technician was also accessing the wiring system on the machine, which he claimed may have caused the machine to come on.
Sources, including the Liberia National Police attributed the accident to negligence on the part of the technician and by extension the company.
Meanwhile, it t is not clear as to the progress so far regarding funeral and benefits for the victim, but this paper has learned that the victim has since been buried.
