Samukai Finally Turns Over

Defense Minister, J. Brownie Samukai has finally relinquished his 12 year assignment to the personnel Director of the Ministry of National Defense Friday to pave the way for the incoming Minister; Gen. Daniel Ziankahn, former Chief of Staff of the Army Forces of Liberia to take over.
Samukai served as Minister of Defense for 12 unbroken years under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; his administration was characterized by corruption and intimidation. However, the outgoing Defense Chief has expressed confidence in the ability of his successor, Gen. Ziankahn to perform well.
He confirmed that Gen. Ziankahn demonstrated high degree of professionalism when he served as Army Chief of Staff and cautioned him to continue the good job, adding that public service is one of the greatest things one can do for his country.
The Former Defense Minister made the assertion over the weekend at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) where the Defense Ministry is located.
Former Minister Samukai recounted his achievements at the Defense Ministry under former Pres. Sirleaf; he cited massive transformation, which according to him the country can be proud of; he said the AFL is tactical and competent to represent Liberia.
He disclosed that US$3 Million Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed during his tenure with a partner of the Ministry to supply medical services to the AFL. He furthered lauded ECOWAS, United States, Ghana, China and Federal Republic of Nigeria for their roles in the training of officers of the AFL.
The outgoing Defense Chief also praised former Pres. Sirleaf for the opportunity provided him to serve.
