US Govt. Trains 10 Immigration Officers
– The United States Government has provided funding for the training of 10 Border Patrol Officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) in Intensive fraud Detection. The training is currently taking place in Ghana.
Making the disclosure on a local radio phone-in show on Monday, the Communication Director of LIS, Madam Laurie Page, said the training is intended to enhance the operation of officers at borders points across the country.According to Page, the training will also place the officers in competition with their counterparts in the region in terms of extraditing cross border criminals, something she claimed will make great impact at the various border points across the country.
The LIS spokesperson added that the training is also intended to improve professionalism within the LIS by ensuring that frauds are detected at the borders and to stop those involved in illegal entry into Liberia.
Meanwhile, Madam Page has lauded international partners for assisting LIS to establish its Migration Information Data Analysis System at the Roberts International Airport (RIA), Plank Field and LIS central office to assist officers at border points to be used to identify fake documents and capture criminals attempting to enter Liberia.
She noted that even though the LIS is faced with capacity building, logistics and salary challenges, among others, the Service will work harder to improve and strengthen its operations.
She then thanked the U.S Government and other partners for their support to the LIS over the years.
