UMU Wins MCC Inter Universities Debate

The United Methodist University (UMU) was on Wednesday March 21, 2018 declared winner of the grand final of the inter universities Debate in which some Universities around Monrovia participated at the Monrovia City Hall recntly.
The final debate in which the UMU won was between the United Methodist University (UMU) and the Stella Maris Polytechnic (SMP), Speaking at the beginning of the program, the city Mayor of Monrovia, Hon. Jefferson Koijee, thanked the two finalists and promised that this will not be the end, but the beginning as the debate initiative launched by the MCC will reach to every university in the country.
He added “we will invite universities and colleges all over the country to come and take part in the coming future debates. He thanked everyone at the program for honoring their invitations, especially the staff, judges and students from the various institutions who deemed it necessary to come”.
“This is the beginning of a series of the interactions that we want to foster, we have come with huge responsibilities as young persons, and as a representation of our generation, we have decided to initiate a process whereby we can keep our country going forward for the betterment of everyone of us, and one of them is to launch a palaver hut program like this”, said Koijee.
The debate started on the topic of “inadequate funding is responsible for the uncleanness of Monrovia, with the United Methodist University in favor and the Stella Maris Polytechnic (SMP.
After the debate, the United Methodist University who was announced victorious with a score of 1,200 points or 87.4% was awarded as first prizes: A trophy, certificate and the sum of LD$50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Liberia Dollars), and the African Methodist Episcopal University with a total of 940 points or 78.3 % was also awarded a trophy, certificate, and LD$30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Liberian Dollars).
