AFL To Build New Military Hospital
Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe has said that the new Military Hospital for which President George Weah broke ground recently, will be constructed by the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Engineering Battalion.
He said there could be sub-contractors to provide assistance to the AFL engineers to help speed up the project, but about 90 percent of the workforce will be Liberians.Appearing on state radio on Monday, Minister Nagbe clarified that no contract for the proposed military hospital has been awarded to any contractor as is being speculated in some quarters.
The speculation is that the construction of the proposed military hospital has been awarded to the Bittar Construction Company, a Lebanese entity.
President George Manneh Weah recently broke grounds for the construction of a military hospital, which was named 14 Military Hospital.
The Liberian leader sees the construction of the hospital as a step to “building a modern and professional Liberian army.”
Nagbe noted that at no time was the project given to the Bittar Company, and explained that there are some business people who are contributing to the project in other ways.
He said the President is exerting every effort to ensure that the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure its modernization.
