-Pres. Weah’s Looming Action
President George Manneh Weah is expected to perhaps, take his initial anti-corruption action against former officials who are implicated in Global Witness’s recent report the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) that is enduring bankruptcy.
A dispatch issued in Monrovia by the Executive Mansion on May 16, 2018, disclosed that Pres. Weah is reviewing the findings and recommendations made by a special presidential committee recently set up to probe the Global Witness’s damaging report; Pres. Weah according to the dispatch is expected to come up with an appropriate course of action shortly.Pres. Weah, recently received the formal report from the Special Presidential Review Committee constituted to probe into the Global Witness Report on NOCAL.
A five-member Special Presidential Committee was set up on April 17, 2018 to examine allegations made by Global Witness in its reports on Liberia, with specific reference on NOCAL.
Members of the Committee include Cllr. Ndubuisi Nwabudike, Chairperson; Cllr. Pearl Brown Bull, member; Cllr. C. Alexander Zoe, member; Rev. Joseph Gardea Johnson, III, member and Mrs. Frances Greaves, member.
The report was presented to the Liberian leader on Wednesday at his Office in Monrovia, according to an Executive Mansion.
Meanwhile, the President has, however, commended the committee for its work and due diligence.
