VP Taylor Urges Muslims
-Wants Worshippers Pray For Liberia
Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has called on members of the Islamic faith to pray for the nation as they go through the month of Ramadan.
VP Taylor also wants Muslim leaders to uphold and nurture the ideals of peace and respect for national authorities as dictated by Islam.The Vice President made the comments over the weekend at the Benson Street Mosque when she donated 100 bags of rice to the Islamic community.
She said, the donation was her personal way of identifying with Muslims as they go through a month-long fast and prayer.
Receiving the donation, the Chief Imam of Liberia, Ali Krayee, commended Vice President Taylor on behalf of the Islamic community for the donation and prayed for God’s blessing upon her and the government as they embark on the development agenda of the country.
Krayee said, the Muslims of Liberia were grateful for the recognition and respect shown by the Vice President, noting that the government should be assured of maximum cooperation from Muslims in the country.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Mohammed, according to Islamic belief.
The annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month lasts 29-30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon.
