House Approves NOCAL’s Missing Money Report

The House of Representatives has accepted the recommendations of the report from the Special Presidential Committee on the misapplication of funds at the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL).
The committee was constituted by President George M. Weah to investigate officials who were accused in the Global Witness report of misappropriating hundreds of thousands of U.S dollars at NOCAL.
The House’s decision to approve the recommendations followed a communication from President Weah which was read in session on Tuesday, May 29.According to the President, the Special Presidential Committee has concluded its investigation and submitted the report to his office.
Those individuals mentioned in the report, according to the President’s communication, are to restitute the amount of US$365,000.
Some of the former and current government officials are to pay back US$35,000 each, while some will pay US$15,000 and US$5,000 each.
Former officials in the US$35,000 category are Natty B. Davis, Christina Tah, Amara Konneh, Robert Sirleaf, Patrick Sendolo, Randolph McClain, James Kollie and Seward Cooper.
Those in the US$15,000 category are Susan Mapples, Idella Cooper Shannon, Kou Dorliae, Jeff Woods and Alpha Shah, while Anyaa Vohiri and Varbah Gayflor are in the US$5,000 category.
Meanwhile, the President in his communication informed members of the House of Representatives that he will issue a formal position on the report after it is reviewed by the cabinet. LINA
