Muslim Leader Lauds Pres. Weah

– For Identifying With Muslims
The Grand Mufti of Liberia, Sheikh Abubakar Sumaworo, has commended President George Manneh Weah for identifying with Liberian Muslims as they go through the Holy Month of Ramadan.
It can be recalled that President Weah, following the commencement of the Holy Month of Ramadan, donated food items and made financial contributions to some Islamic Communities in the country. The President is currently extending his good gesture to several other Islamic Communities in the country, and broke fast with them on Friday, June 1, as a way of further identifying with the Muslim Community.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) Tuesday, Mr. Sumaworo said: “Liberian Muslims are ready to implement the Islamic tradition by extending our thanks and appreciation to the President for all that he has done for us and we shall use the last ten days of Ramadan to ask the Almighty Allah to protect, guide and give him wisdom.”
The Islamic Cleric added that Liberian Muslims are overwhelmed by the President’s generosity towards them; he noted that the recent dinner organized by the President in honor of Muslims at his residence was the first time by a sitting president in the history of Liberia.
“The Muslims have vowed to remain loyal and work with the government to attain its development agenda, as well as help in promoting peace and tranquility within the country,” he said.
He assured the President that the Muslim community will support him and his government, adding, “the President’s Pro-Poor agenda is in the best interest of the Liberian people.”
