Press Union of Liberia (PUL) president Charles Cuffey is calling for the speedy trial of journalist Tyron Brown’s alleged murder suspect and purported accomplices.
Making the call at this year’s PUL Annual Awards Program in Buchanan at the weekend, Cuffey said as the fallen journalist has been laid to rest, but the PUL wants the government to speedily investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.“Ensuring the speedy trial of the alleged killer of journalist Browne and his accomplices by the government will help deter further attacks on members of the media by some unscrupulous individuals in society,” the PUL President noted.
The Super FM TV journalist was allegedly killed and his corpse dumped in a Paynesville neighborhood by suspect Jonathan Williams on April 17, prompting swift police investigation.
The PUL president stressed the importance of the courts bringing the case to a logical conclusion as soon as possible because knowing the outcome means a lot for the journalism community and the public in general.
The suspect has since been remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison pending court trial.
