UNDP Official Highlights NDMA Role
The Assistant Country Representative of the United Nation Development Program in Liberia, Mr. Donsla D. Farcarthy says, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has a crucial mandate in the governance of the country.
Mr. Farcarthy noticed that managing disaster in a country where the people take too much for granted is a huge challenge, ranging from providing disaster mitigation information to responding to disaster events. The UNDP’s Assistant Country Representative made the remarks Thursday June 14, 2018 during an assessment visit at the new offices of the Disaster Management Agency at the junction of UN Drive and Gurley Street in Monrovia.
According to him, the disaster agency as the national coordinator in the event disaster occurs, needs a team of experts to cover the country.
Mr. Farcarthy assured the staff of the agency that the UNDP was liaising with government to build the capacity of all sectors, including the National Disaster Management Agency.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director NDMA, Henry O. Williams, expressed appreciation to Mr. Farcarthy and the UNDP family for the level of support to the disaster agency.
Mr. Williams told the UNDP’s official that the Government of President George Manneh Weah was committed to strengthening the disaster management agency and commended the international donors for assisting the government to achieve its goals.
Meanwhile the statements were contained in a dispatch issued in Monrovia June 14, 2018.
