Gender Ministry Sets ‘July 26’ Activities for Children

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) has earmarked special activities in which a large number of children around Monrovia and its environ during this year’s 171st Independence anniversary programs.
This was disclosed yesterday by Madam Lydia B. Sherman, the Deputy Minister for Children and Social Protection at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) when she spoke during the regular Thursday press briefing of the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT).According to Madam Sherman, the Ministry of gender has earmarked a series of events for children during this year’s 171st Anniversary of the July 26, Independence Day celebrations, noting that on July 26 about 500 children will be participating in a children’s extravaganza to be graced by His Excellency President George Manneh Weah.
“The children’s extravaganza will include participating in quizzes, contests and games, followed by the President visiting two homes of the orphans and children with disabilities. But the climax of the entire independence day celebrations will be the President and the first Lady Madam Clar Marie Weah, attending children parties where food, drinks and gifts will be served to 2,500 children at the SK Doe stadium in Paynesville and to 2,500 children at the Antoinette Tubman stadium in central Monrovia,” she said.
Madam Sherman clarified that only children residing in various communities within Montserrado County will be invited, adding that various women’s groups working with the Ministry in communities within Monrovia, have already been contacted to come along with children from their respective communities to attend the festivities.
“The schools that are expected to take part in the children’s quiz include the SOS Children’s village and the W.V.S.Tubman High school,” she said..
Meanwhile in a related development, the Spokesman of the Liberia national Police (LNP) Mr. Moses Carter has disclosed that traffic will be diverted in sections of the city where activities will be taking place.
He said in this regards, on Sunday at 11:00 am, July 22, when the Intercessory Service programs will be held at the centennial Memorial Pavilion Buchanan, Ashmun and Center Streets will be closed to traffic by the EPS Security team until the end of the program.
The LNP Spokesman also noted that on Monday July 23, at 4:00 in view of the youth interactive dialogue that will take place at the Monrovia city Hall, traffic will be diverted top Jallah’s town route as vehicles will not be allowd to pass in front of the city hall. “On Tuesday July 23, at 2:pm in view of the children’s extravaganza at the ATS stadium there will be no traffic on UN Drive as all will be diverted towards the Redemption Street behind the BTC Barracks and the camp Johnson Road. He added that there will be other traffic diversions on Independent Dayto be announced later.
LNP Spokesman carter used the occasion to clarify that information circulating on social media regarding a person arrested with $3Million, is misleading and not true; and warned that information from the Police should originate either from his office or the office of the Inspector General.
