Gender and Security Sector End Workshop

The Gender Security Sector National Taskforce which includes the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Gender, Children Social and Protection and the Ministry of National Defense has concluded a one day Sustainability Workshop at the National Defense Ministry in Monrovia.
Speaking at the end of the one day workshop, Jangai Lisa Gbemie said that the event was intended for them, as members of the taskforce, to brainstorm on how the taskforce is going to be sustained after the donor partners draw down support from the program.According to her, the sustainability of the taskforce is vital to them as members, noting that it was very important that they, as stakeholders, come together as one to find the way forward on how they can generate funding to sustain the taskforce after the partners leave.
Madam Gbemie observed that one of the partners of the program, the GSSNT, is expected to be drawing down shortly, adding that this was one of the partners who have been very supportive of the program since it started.
Other members of the taskforce are the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia National Fire Service (LNS), Liberia Drug Enforcement (LDE), as well as other institutions within government.
At the end of the workshop four groups were put together to come out with their recommendations on the ways forward to sustain the taskforce after the donor partners shall draw down.
The groups in their recommendation to the body, said there should be constant holding of meetings between the three lead members of the taskforce, namely the Ministries of National Defense, Justice and Gender and Children and Social Protection.
It was also recommended that there should be regular awareness to the public about the taskforce, they stressed the need for capacity building for members of the taskforce.
They also suggested that the taskforce should also engage national government and cooperate with other institutions for support for the sustainability of the institution.
The objective of the workshop was to solicit ideas from members on the way forward for sustainability after the partner shall withdraw support.
