-Following Pik Botha’s Demise
The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency George M. Weah has sent a message of consolation to the Government and People of South Africa following the death of former South African Foreign Minister H.E. Pik Botha.
Former Foreign Minister Pik Botha died at the age of 86 on Friday, October 12, 2018 at his home in Pretoria.
According to a Foreign Ministry release, President George Manneh Weah, on behalf of Liberia, extended heartfelt condolences to President Cyrus Ramaphosa, and through him, to the Government and people of South Africa, especially the bereaved family for the irreparable loss sustained.While expressing deep sympathy over the sad incident, President George Manneh Weah stated “It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that we have learned of the death of His Excellency Pik Botha”
Former Foreign Minister Pik Botha was recognized as a global statesman for his bold and unpopular anti-apartheid statements amid his senior position as a Foreign Minister of in the South African apartheid Government.
President George Manneh Weah further noted that former Foreign Minister Botha will be remembered for his role played in the transition to democracy in South Africa which led to the unification of the people of South Africa.
The Liberian Leader also prayed that President Cyrus Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa will find strength, courage and endurance during this difficult period on national mourning.
